After the bins, I wanted something different for the hutch wall.
The small hook worked for hanging light items. The bins worked for pens, markers, tools, and loose shop items. But I still wanted a flat surface for things I did not want sitting in a bin or laying on the hutch surface.
So I made a shelf.
That solved one problem. Then I noticed another one.
The supports I designed to make the shelf stronger left some open space underneath. I did not want to waste it, so I added hooks.
That is how the Shelf With Hooks came together. It gives you a shelf on top and three hooks underneath, all in one part.
Why I made a shelf with hooks
I needed a shelf that felt useful, not flimsy.
A shelf on a hutch wall needs support. It needs to hold everyday items without feeling like an afterthought. While designing those supports, I saw that the bottom area could do more than just hold the shelf up.
That empty space became the hook area.
The hooks are similar in purpose to my small hook, but built into the shelf body. That makes the part more useful without making it complicated.
You get a spot to set items down and a spot to hang keys, locks, or other light items.
One part. Two jobs.
What I used it for first
I made this for my own setup before I sold it.
I used the shelf for things like my earbuds and micro electric screwdriver. Those are the kinds of items I want easy access to, but I do not always want them loose on the hutch surface.
I used the hooks for my locks and keys.
That combination made sense right away. The shelf handled the items that needed a flat spot. The hooks handled the items that were better hanging underneath.
It cleaned up the wall without taking over the whole hutch.
Built for the slotted hutch board
I designed this shelf with hooks around the US General Series 3 hutch slotted pegboard.
It also fits the ICON hutch and ICON locker slotted board. It mounts directly into the slots, so you can use the hutch wall without drilling holes or trying to make standard pegboard accessories fit a board they were not made for.
That fit matters.
If a hutch accessory does not sit right, you notice it every time you use it. It rocks. It looks wrong. It feels like a compromise.
This part was made for the board it fits.
The shelf gives you options
A shelf is simple.
That is what makes it useful.
You can use it for whatever makes sense in your setup. Earbuds. A small electric screwdriver. A small container. Tape. Glasses. A light bottle. A small part you want close while you are working.
I am not going to overdefine it. It is a shelf.
The point is to give you a clean place to set things that do not belong in a drawer, bin, or pile on the work surface.
Your setup decides the best use.
The hooks add more storage without adding another part
The three hooks underneath make the shelf more useful.
Use them for keys, locks, lanyards, light hanging items, or anything else that makes sense for a hook. They give you the same kind of function as a small hook, but built into the shelf instead of mounted separately.
That saves space.
It also keeps related items together. For example, you can keep locks on the hooks and the items you use with them on the shelf. Or you can keep keys underneath and your earbuds or small driver above.
You do not have to organize it one specific way.
You just get more options.
Designed to mount side by side
This shelf with hooks was designed so multiple units can mount side by side.
That matters if you want a longer shelf or more hooks across the back wall. One shelf gives you three hooks. Two shelves side by side gives you a longer shelf area and six hooks lined up together.
That makes the part easier to expand as your setup grows.
You can start with one. If you need more room later, add another beside it.
One of my early hutch accessories
This was one of my early hutch accessory designs and became one of my best sellers.
That makes sense to me.
It solves a common problem without being overbuilt. Most people can find a use for a shelf. Most people can find a use for hooks. Putting both together makes the part useful in more than one way.
That is the type of product I like making.
Simple. Practical. Built because I needed it first.
Printed in PETG for shop use
I print the Shelf With Hooks in PETG.
PETG is generally tougher and more flexible than PLA. It also handles heat better, which makes it a better choice for garage, shop, and toolbox hutch use.
PLA has its place, but I do not prefer it for this kind of functional part. It can be more rigid and more brittle over time, especially when heat or repeated use is involved.
PETG gives this shelf a better balance of strength, flexibility, and heat resistance.
It is still a 3D printed part. Use it for the type of storage it was made for, and it will help keep your hutch cleaner and easier to use.
