Product Highlight: Small Hook for US General Series 3 and ICON Hutch and Locker
I bought a US General Series 3 hutch and ran into a problem almost right away.
The slotted back wall looked like it should be useful. That was one of the reasons I wanted the hutch in the first place. More wall space. Better access. Less clutter sitting on the work surface.
Then I started looking for hutch accessories and attachments.
There were not many options. The slotted board does not use normal pegboard spacing, and regular pegboard hooks do not fit. Universal accessories were not much help either. They were made for a different system, so they looked wrong, sat wrong, or did not work at all.
So I made my own.
The small hook was the first product I designed for this setup. I started with a hook because it was useful, small, and simple enough to get the fit right before moving on to other parts.
It started as something for my own hutch. Once I saw how few hutch accessories existed for this slotted board, I decided to offer it to other people dealing with the same problem.
Made for the slotted hutch board
I designed this hook around the US General Series 3 hutch slotted pegboard.
The ICON hutch and locker use the same style of slotted board, so the hook also fits those setups. That gives you a way to use the empty back wall without drilling holes, cutting anything, or trying to force standard pegboard parts into a board they were never made for.
That matters because fit is the whole point.
A hook can be strong and still be annoying if it does not sit right. It can hold weight and still feel cheap if it rocks around in the slot. I wanted this part to feel like it belonged on the hutch, not like something I settled for.
Why I started with a hook
A hook is basic. That is why it made sense as the first product.
Before making bins, shelves, mounts, or larger holders, I needed to solve the most important part of the design. The fit. If the hook did not lock into the board cleanly, nothing else mattered.
The small hook gave me a practical starting point.
It let me test the slot shape, the angle, and the way the part sits against the board. It also gave me something I could use right away. I did not want a product that only looked good in a photo. I wanted something that solved a real storage problem in my own setup.
Small items are always the first things to create clutter. Keys. Safety glasses. Small handled tools. Lanyards. Light cords. Brushes. Anything with a hole, loop, clip, or strap can end up buried in a drawer or sitting in the way.
This hook gives those items a place to go.
What the small hook is good for
Use it for light items that naturally hang from a hook.
Keys are an easy one. Safety glasses work well too. So do small brushes, lightweight cords, lanyards, and small tools that already have a hang hole or loop.
I am keeping that list realistic on purpose.
This is not a giant equipment hook. It is not meant for heavy tools, bulky gear, or anything that needs a deep cradle. It is a small hook for small items, and that is where it works best.
When you use it that way, it helps clear the little stuff off your hutch surface and keeps it where you can reach it.
Printed in PETG for shop use
I print the small hook in PETG.
PETG is generally tougher and more flexible than PLA. It also handles heat better, which makes it a better choice for a garage, shop, or toolbox hutch.
PLA has its place. I use it for certain prints where it makes sense. But for functional shop parts, PETG is usually the better material. PLA is more rigid and can get brittle, especially when it sees heat or repeated stress.
PETG gives the hook a better balance of strength, flexibility, and heat resistance.
That does not mean you should abuse it. It is still a 3D printed part. Use it for the type of items it was made for, and it does its job without taking up much space.
Why this product exists
This was not made because I was trying to chase a random product idea.
I made it because I bought a hutch, wanted to use the back wall, and could not find the accessories I expected to find. The hutch came with a few useful pieces, like the screwdriver holder and the folder style bin, but I wanted more hutch accessories for the slotted board.
Magnetic hooks can work for some setups. They have their place. I still wanted something that used the slots directly because that space was already built into the hutch.
The small hook came from that problem.
Most of my products start this same way. I need something for my own workspace, so I design it. If it works well and solves a real problem, I consider selling it.
That is how Knisley 3D Solutions started.
Use the space you already have
The back wall of your hutch should not sit empty.
You already paid for that space. You may as well use it.
A few small hooks will not organize your entire toolbox, but they can clean up the loose items that always seem to end up in the wrong spot. That makes the hutch easier to use every day.
Less clutter on the work surface.
Fewer small items buried in drawers.
More of your tools and accessories where you can see them.
That is the goal.
